Madhuri Dixit: Handwriting Analysis Анализ почерка Мадхури Дикшит.

By Dr Anand Manocha
Features seen in Madhuri Dixit's handwriting are:

* Appearance is highly individualistic.
* Simplified capitals, not big.
* Almost two-third tops of letters appear angular in shape.
* Well-connected letters - sometimes angular, sometimes garlands.
* Medium to small size.
* Many left-tending strokes.
* Initial strokes of various styles, seen in many letters.
* Predominance of exclamation marks.
* 't' crossing high and uprising at times.
* Last endings of 20 per cent letters show free-flowing extensions.
* Lower zone well formed - usually, about 25 per cent compressed and lean.
* Legible writing
* Stylised, unique, but recognisable signatures. No underlining.
* Almost no loops in upper zone extensions.

First Impression
Madhuri appears as a very fragile doll-like woman who, though vulnerable in appearance, seems to be equally capable of conquering all opposition. A very deadly combination of genuine womanly charm and Durga/Kali like qualities as well. It may be this highly fluctuating variability of responses that Madhuri is capable of that gives all her actions a touch of individuality, intensity, and creativity. She creates her attraction, literally.

Why People Crave For Madhuri
Many people adore Madhuri immensely, and a few go all 'fida' over her on a very instinctual level. What does she have to offer? She fulfils a man's inherent desire: to give in to temptation OR not to be tempted (by her)? She creates this conflicting and somewhat painful movement in the emotional mind. And this excitement compels us to do something about it, to adore her, to watch her, to possess her, to get into her aura, to get rewards for winning her completely. And why not!

What's Her Winning Edge?
Her evolved, even subtle womanly charm seems to compel a man to want to need her completely. The viewer likes to have her company, if not in reality, at least on screen. So she wins us over.
How does she do it?
(This is the same way that she has learnt acting from her life. She doesn't portray the character, but becomes that character.)

* Starts any relationship by first positioning herself as 'correct' from her standpoint, but is also ready to meet the other halfway.
* Has pride, but is able to swallow it and not engage in any losing battle.
* Listens to her conscience; and tries not to gain any undue advantage.
* Keen to win in any competitive way.
* Maintains the proper basis of relatedness with others as well.

Is Madhuri A Complex Person?
Saying that Madhuri is a complex person is less appropriate than saying that she is a person who has naturalised a very large part of her potential. She's sharp, smart, intelligent, and shrewd on the one hand, and equally emotional, rhythmic, spontaneous on the other. She is extremely confident, with a convincing belief in herself.
Look at the simplified letters with original signatures. At this juncture, what we can best say is that Madhuri has successfully explored and exploited her talents on many fronts (due to her initial struggle).

What Does Madhuri Want?
She recognises the priority of emotions as the common link between humans and that intellect must be used to fully use it. Even though she is more blunt than expressive (as seen in the very limited loops of upper zone letters), her USP is the well-developed ability to organise her expression by making variable use of 'emphases' and 'pauses' without breaking the link of characterisation. Her aim is very idealistic: to ensure that no one remains thirsty after meeting her; that she may have so much to offer to others that she becomes an unfailing source of strength. And also that her openness be valued, respected, and recognised. She is an emotional inspiration at all times. And with her shrewd mind, she is able to make the right moves to reach the right places.

Why Did Madhuri Marry Dr Nene?
(I Ching clues included)
Is being Mrs. Nene her right place? Apparently not.
She was a highly paid actress in Bollywood when destiny brought her in contact with an Indian doctor settled in the US. She was already keen to bring a transforming change into her life; so, why not try marriage, she thought, and do it differently? This way, she would be spared the shock of being helplessly tossed hither and thither. The pressures of events in the film industry can be very daunting at the top and then, to not know where to go next... all these factors favoured her making a dramatic change (and we already know that she loves dramatic changes). Moreover, the art film, Gajagamani, by M. Fida Hussain, did not fetch her the revolutionary drama that she had expected. So, marriage to Dr Nene did the trick. An element of devotional acceptance of fate is evident here.

If Madhuri Wern't An Actress, What Would She Be?
In all probability, she would run a business empire where she is the complete boss, with all the splendour and abundance for herself, showing shrewdness, arrogance, even obstinacy in being the master (or mistress). But this would have isolated her from others, which would be difficult for her to handle.

Where Does She Go From Here?
She is not happy in isolation and definitely wants to be part of a group, company, or fraternity. She is doing some films at present, but this will not satisfy her fully. She must listen to her heart more than ever, and join a national or international group that promotes emotional expression. This decision should not be made by calculated measures, but by emotional affinity and listening to her inner voice. She will surely want to be a changed person now.

Suggestions For An Improved Future:

* Put aside pride and follow the example of good men/women.
* Practice writing Urdu, one page with the right hand, one page with the left hand, every day for one to three months.
* Learn new languages, Indian and international

When I first saw Madhuri Dixit in Maar Dala, I went mad." - Sarvinoz Baltabaeva

"I would love to dance with Madhuri Dixit, I find her very gorgeous." - Sikander Kher

"I am a huge Madhuri Dixit fan and can't wait to see her on screen again. She is the evergreen beauty of Indian cinema. She is still so beautiful and glamorous, I just can't take my eyes off her." - Sikander Kher

"Art cinema can be revived only by someone like Madhuri." - Shabana Amzi

"Madhuri Dixit has always been a favourite. She was someone who in her era when it was all about the men when she stood her ground like nobody else has been. She to me is the quintessential and the best example of a commercial Bollywood actress. She had the right balance of realism and adha, the dancing, and everything. She was the right package. " - Shahana Goswami

"There wouldn't be any mobile phones those days, so I'd get a lot of time to flirt with all the heroines. I would flirt with all of them... and much more with Madhuri." - Shahid Kapoor

"Well I have been a fan of Madhuri Dixit, she was fantastic. She is whose performance I really like." - Shahid Kapoor

"The most important aspect of my film (Suryamukhi) is the relationship between the model and artist, which is platonic. And it is only if I get extreme shades of performance from the model that I can do justice to the quality of Ravi Varma's paintings. Whether it is Saraswathi, Lakshmi, Damayanthi or Shakuntala, there is expression in the stillness and silence of the paintings. To get expressions in silence, you need a very good artiste, which is why I thought of Madhuri Dixit." - Shaji N. Karun

"Madhuri Dixit is the most solid man I´ve met in the industry.Yeah, you heard right. She´s truly like a man. She´s the most solid thinker, solid emotionally, solid believer. And someone who loves her parents immensely. And of course, her talent is unquestionable. She´s the complete Indian film heroine. She´d always help me with my dancing. I´d always dance a step behind her so I could follow her. Like in Koyla I would tell her just be half a step ahead of me, so it´ll be easy for me. And she´d oblige. I hope she comes back. I miss her. I miss seeing her more than I miss working with her. To me Madhuri is the epitome of acting, of love and friendship. She is closes to my heart. And from her I´ve learnt the most. She is the only one I feel I´m not as good as." - Shahrukh Khan

"I think you decrease the importance of Madhuri if you call her Madhuri the Dancer. I think Madhuri is a complete actor. And I can never ever think of Madhuri just as a dancer, though all the dances I´ve ever done with Madhuri she helped me immensely. I´m pathetic and she was really you know.... in one or two films she´s held my hands, when it seemed I´m leading her she´s actually leading me. You know, when I came into the industry she was a superstar, agreed to work with me, taught me a lot of stuff and I think Madhuri is one of the most complete actors Indian cinema has ever seen." - Shahrukh Khan

"For me Madhuri is the strongest man I´ve ever met. She´s very very strong-willed, she´s a fantastic actor, very very professional and when I worked with her first time I learned that there is greatness in giving." - Shahrukh Khan

"She is the most beautiful. One of the actors I have learnt a lot from. Madhuri´s always been there because she is in the heart. And I can´ comment on her dancing, she taught me, saved me from bad dancing." - Shahrukh Khan

"You know I´m very close to Madhuri.... I have a lot of warm feelings towards her. Many a time I´ve said this, that she has shown me so many times how to dance, helped me with my scenes, hid me behind her if my dance steps were wrong like in Dil To Pagal Hai." - Shahrukh Khan

"A superstar like Madhuri is always in our hearts, in our minds. Yes, she felt she needed time to get married, have children, lose weight. Now she's back. I met her about seven months ago when I was shooting Chak De, and we spent a long time together. I didn't even feel she'd gone anywhere." - Shahrukh Khan

"For Madhuri and Juhi, I do think of them as someone, if they tell me something, I would do it." - Shahrukh Khan

"I can't think of comparing myself with Govinda, Salman, Jackie, Anil, Sridevi, Madhuri and Juhi." - Shahrukh Khan

"Among the actresses there's Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Kajol - I think these are people one should act with to be able to know where they stand." - Shahrukh Khan

"She is absolutely the most beautiful sight in the world when she dances." - Shahrukh Khan

"I have no double thoughts when I say that the counting for the good and talented stops when I say 'Ek do teen'. I would love to team up with Madhuri again or at least want her to make a guest appearance in my film in the years ahead... I just love her completely, she is my darling. I am fond of her deadly smile and beauty."- Shahrukh Khan

"She has the expression of classic tragic passion. She has the ability to portray a woman completely and entirely in love." - Shekhar Kapur

"Madhuri is a very, how do you say... I have always liked her, from day one. I find her - besides being such a fabulous looker and all that - a very lovely, simple girl. Simple, simple girl, you know, the one you can take home to your mother kind. It's a fact. Because I was observing her on all the days of the shoot. God, she is so humble and so down-to-earth. And besides discussing dance we discussed all interesting topics, like life-after-death, UFOs, all of which she also believes in. Her parents too. I was really fascinated with her, and I enjoyed working with her a lot. A very talented and very professional girl. And her expressions are amazing." - Shiamak Davar

"Madhuri is all grace and she cannot be compared with anyone." - Shiamak Davar

"Oh boy, Madhuri was not only a fab student, but she's a mind-blowing human being as well." - Shiamak Davar

"I find Madhuri a better dancer (then Karishma) by leaps and bounds because she has a classic style, whereas Karishma has a a bubbly teenage girl style. But I'm always a person who prefers classics to modern day stuff. I also found Madhuri very humble and one of the most wonderful people to work with. So I'm probably biased in her favour. And, frankly, I find her unbelievably gorgeous. If I give Madhuri a movement to do she does it like a woman, and if I give the same movement to Karishma, she does it like a little girl. That's the difference." - Shiamak Davar

"I am a fan of Madhuri Dixit. After watching her films, I would come home and imitate her." - Shika

"What would I do in a film where Madhuri takes the cake? In fact she even beat Salman hollow in Dil Tera Ashiq."- Shilpa Shrirodhkar

"Madhuri is a typical middle class Marathi girl. She has no ego hassles or attitude issues. She is very down to earth just like her parents. I remember Madhuri would be accompanied by one of her parents every time during the shooting of Pukar. Once there was an awards function in Mumbai and I was shooting in Ooty. She took the trouble to call me personally and give me an invitation for me and my family." - Shivaji Satam

"I always wanted to sing for Kajol and Madhuri. Both of them bring life to their characters and I am a big fan of theirs. For Madhuri, I have just sung one verse Chalak Chalak and I want to sing a full-fledged song for her." - Shreya Ghoshal

"My all-time favourite has always been Madhuri Dixit. The kind of talent and spontaneity Madhuri has is simply great. And she is also beautiful." - Shreyas Talpade

"I'm in love with Madhuri . However i can't be her leading man in a movie. It has more to do with screen age. I can play even her servant." - Shreyas Talpade

"I have always liked Madhuri Dixit. She is good looking and carries herself very well. Especially in her movie, 'Sailaab', she looked her best while dancing to the tune of 'Hum ko aajkal hai intezaar' - Shreyas Talpade

"Sarees are tough attire, how the heel do heroines dance and fight in it? Madhuri Dixit, you rock!" - Shruti Hasaan

"In a lavish dance sequence (Dola Re), where Bhansali pits Madhuri against the much younger Aishwarya, you can see the latter has the slimmer waist, but the former´s moves, which come from within, put her all the way up there with the dancing greats. You can see that she is not just following the choreographer´s directions which can turn dance numbers into mere callisthenic exercises, she is in the moment, going with the flow, with all her being." - Shubhra Gupta

"I loved watching Madhuri Dixit at work; I was in awe of her. She is a perfect dancer and actress and very hardworking. She was a big influence on me after Dil." - Shweta Kumar

"One of my favorites...is the sensational and poised Madhuri Dixit! The very mention of her name gets your minds racing with her dance numbers and graceful performances, not to forget that high voltage smile! From her 'Ek Do Teen' to 'Mera Piya Ghar Aaya' jumpy numbers, I have tried to copy her every step and bend to duplicate that effortless polish of hers but like the world knows-Madhuri Dixit is the one and only in our film industry. The charm and beauty she exudes is inexplicable and even a thousand words wouldn't do justice to her... She was and continues to be my idol and I don't aspire to be her but she does inspire me to be that lovely, refined Indian woman she is.... I was lucky enough to bump into her once a long time ago at a clinic but very obviously it was a very limited, formal and courteous exchange of greetings. Yes, I did feel that rage of excitement and scream out loud on seeing my idol in front of me, in person, just centimeters distant from me!... There have been a few instances when during shoots or dance sequences and performances, I have been complimented to remind people of Madhuri Dixit. And that makes my day ." - Shweta Tiwari

"I think, somehow, Madhuri Dixit became a part of our Indian culture." - Simi Garewal

''It is a crime if an actress like Madhuri does not make a comeback. I am a big fan of Madhuri Dixit and feel that she should always be there in the movies. However, I do not think I am ever in the same category.'' - Sonali Bendre

"Madhuri Dixit and my dad! They had such amazing, sizzling chemistry! I loved them in 'Tezaab', 'Beta' and 'Ram Lakhan'." - Sonam Kapoor to the question who was the best Bollywood pair

"My role model is Madhuri Dixit." - Sonia Agarwal

"Madhuri is the best thing to have happened to the industry." - Sonu Walia

"Madhuri is par excellence." - Sridevi

"My favourite heroine was, is and always will be Madhuri." - Subhash Ghai

"Madhuri has the willingness to learn, which is something I have not seen in any other artist which I have worked with!" - Subhash Ghai

"Madhuri doesn't copy Madhubala but she does have the same abilities the same dramatic flair and sense of comic timing. Both have this ability to spoof themselves and both seem approachable but someone who cannot be possessed." - Sudhir Mishra

"Madhuri is beautiful. I had only one opportunity to shoot her. We started at nine in the morning and wound up around 7 p.m. I had perhaps for this shoot like a student appearing for his final exams. I had discussed the kind of make-up I wanted to give her with the make artist weeks before. Even the clothes were finalised well in advance. She slipped in and out of costumes hour after hour with not even a momentary expression of fatigue or restlessness crossing her face. I was amazed when at the end of one of my busiest and longest days a still - ravishing Madhuri asked me if we could continue the shoot next day." - Sumeet Chopra

"Madhuri Dixit is undoubtedly the prettiest woman I´ve ever seen." - Sushant Singh

"Who am I? I am nothing. Madhuri Dixit is beautiful, not me." - Sushmita Sen

"One of my favourite actresses. She has a million dollar smile which drives one crazy. " - Tarun Mansukhati

"My all time favourite has been Madhuri Dixit." - Terrence Lewis

"Perhaps the most powerfull actress ever, her producers could ensure that a film would do well just because of her name. Such was the power of Madhuri Dixit. Hum Aapke hain Kaun is one of the biggest Bollywood hits ever.... Madhuri was the heartbeat of that film....." - Tillakaratne Dilshan

"A special chemistry that Madhubala and Madhuri possessed that transcends talent. It was as though there was no camera and they communicated directly with the audience.'' - Uday Kaushik

"She personifies grace, she personifies beauty, she personifies sensuality in a subtle manner..... When you show her what to do you can be sure she´ll do it 100 times better than what you´ve shown her." - Vaibhavi Merchant

"She embodies everything a woman should be." - Vaibhavi Merchant

"She´s that kind of person who can carry off the whole dance sequence with only expressing. She needs not dance, she should just snad she should just express herself and voila!" - Vaibhavi Merchant

"I think she´s been the most graceful, the most ellegant, the most poised Indian actress you can ever think of." - Vaishali Desai

"Madhuri Dixit is too good. I want to dance just like her." - Vaishnavi Patil

"Talent is not age specific. Madhuri is a luminous talent and like a good single malt, she has only gotten better with age. If I did think of a project for her it would have to be something that does justice to her many skills. Something that pushes her into new areas while building on the immense love she already has with her audience." - Vidhu Vinod Chopra

"I loved Madhuri Dixit in Devdas. I´m a huge fan of hers. If I can conduct my career with half her dignity and grace I´d have achieved more than what I had thought." - Vidya Balan

"Being nominated is a not a great achievement but being nominated with a persona like Madhuri Dixit is a real achievement for me!" - Vidya Balan

"Her charm is something else! She is the youngest legend of our industry if I can call her that.... She is not only beautiful but is very humble." - Vidya Balan

"Madhuri Dixit. She is beautiful and talented. I never thought I'd be an actor, but she inspired me." - Vidya Malvade

"Take any film of Madhuri Dixit and you´ll see, that it doesn´t matter if the film is a winner or not - Madhuri Dixit is always the hero of the movie." - Vikram Phadnis

"There are actresses and there are actresses. And then there is Madhuri Dixit." - Vikram Phadnis

"Madhuri Dixit is the best ever." - Vinay Pathak

"There is only one word to describe her - fantastic! - Vinay Pathak

"Madhuri Dixit is a dream yet so human." - Vinay Pathak

"She is a damn good actress!" - Vinod Chopra

"Recently, I met Madhuri, Mrs Nene. I was working at Yashraj and I saw her there and I just couldn't speak. I have worked with stalwarts and very big actors and I have never been so tongue-tied in my life. I think I am very articulate. So I made up my mind to go and talk. Then someone knocked on my door and it was someone from her staff saying she'd like to say hello. I said I would love to and I went to her room to say hello and I was tongue-tied all over again. That was one woman who captivated me all my childhood and my teenage years till I was a man. And no one in my generation matches her: that beauty, the dazzling smile, the expressive eyes, the performances that she ripped out one after the other. I have loved Beta, Raja, Tezaab, even Ram Lakhan in which she doesn't have too much of a role but I used to go to see it just to watch her. I loved her." - Vivek Oberoi

"Madhuri is a perfect combination of acting, dance, expression and talent among all others." - Vyjantimala

"Madhuri Dixit is a wonderful dancer, wonderfuly beautiful and a wonderful actress." - Waheeda Rehman

"One word for Madhuri-ji would be Goddess." - Yana Gupta

"She is the most wonderful human being. Everybody knows that she is a wonderful actress, add to that people have been complementing her performances all over the years. Of course she is a wonderful artiste, she is a wonderful human being, the most hassle free artiste." - Yash Chopra

"I still remember the day when this young girl walked into my office for work and I told her to leave her photographs. Despite the disappointment the smile never faded from her face, this was Madhuri Dixit. " - Yash Chopra

"It is amazing how she has taken up the challenge. I saw her yesterday and believe me she was looking much better and more beautiful than she looked when she was doing 'Dil To Pagal Hai' with me which was more than ten years ago. No one can say she is a married woman now and a mother of two boys. I am also amazed to see the seriousness with which she has decided to start work again." - Yash Chopra

"I have never seen her cribbing about anything or shirk any responsibility. I always knew that the industry will call her back and I am happy that she is making a comeback... She is the queen of Bollywood and always be so. Over the years, Madhuri has turned out to be a fantastic actress, a graceful dancer and a dedicated mother. This is one woman to get inspired from. " - Yash Chopra

"I so want to be like her, but I can't dance like her…unfortunately." - Yashashree Masurkar

"Everybody knows this answer and it is none other than Madhuri Dixit and I saw her for the first time on the sets of Jhalak when she shot for her initial dance sequence. It was like a dream come true for me where she was dancing for her tracks in front of me, but I didn't get a chance to interact with her." - Yashashree Masurkar (to the question who is her role model)

"I think Madhuri Dixit has one of the most beautiful faces. I´d certainly like to date her if she´s willing." - Yasin Merchant

Debasree Roy (Bengal film actress, Sharodio Anadolok 1996) comments on MD:::

Graceful Dancer
She has worked in so many films, but how amazing, her portrayal of the character in one film is totally different from another. Due to her enormous conception Madhuri has reached to great perfection. Bollywood is not like our film industry where there are just a handful of heroines. In bollywood it is hard to make yourself watch in the presence of so many old and new faces.
I am a fan if Madhuri. All the superhit dances of her films are my favourites. Often I think Madhuri will grow even bigger. Madhuri Dixit is a complete actress. The way she developed herself over the years and snatched the number 1 position from Sridevi is unbelievable. Other than Sridevi there were many actresses around, like Juhi, Pooja, Kajol, Karisma, Manisha, Raveena, Mamta etc. But she turned out to be ahead of everyone else. Madhuri is a thorough professional. She has shown us how to bewitch everyone with beauty and quality. It is really surprising that in a film industry like bollywood where there are so many heroines it is really hard to win the rat race. I don't think there is anyone even remotely close to her. Not only a superb actress but she is also a graceful dancer. Instead of joining films if she had stayed only with dance, she would still be dear to everyone. I myself am a dancer, I know that her dance moves and expressions are unique. And her smile is so sweet. She is excellent in terms of totality. She will get full marks.

Madhuri Dixit loved my brownies: Saransh Goila 12.12.2011

Delhi boy Saransh Goila, who won the cookery show "Food Food" recently, has already been approached for three TV shows, in addition to being offered to host a cookery show specialising in Indian food.

Saransh was only 12-years-old when he surprised his family members with by serving them yummy jalebis and gulab jamuns that he made on his own. "It is not easy to make these sweets. I remember putting the batter in the Maggie squeeze bottle to make the perfect jalebis. Making perfect jalebis is quite a task when one is doing it for the first time," he says.

Weren't his parents apprehensive when he decided to take up cooking as a profession, which many believe falls in the female domain? "Never. My parents have not only been supportive of my decisions, but also take pride in my achievements. My mother has always been my best critic and I owe my success to her. Since I've done a course from Barry John's acting school, I also want to be an actor" he says, adding, "Everybody in my family is a food enthusiast. If we ever hear about a new restaurant in our area - Pitampura, we make sure we try the food. As a kid, I would go to many people's houses to learn their recipes, which I would later practice till I gained perfection."

Saransh who was often called 'Madhuri Dixit Nene's chocolate hero' in "Food Food", told us about the dish that impressed Madhuri the most. "I had prepared chocolate brownies on the show, which Madhuri absolutely adored. She was so impressed with it, that I not only gifted her a huge box of those brownies, but also distributed them amongst the crew members," he recalls.

Sridevi & Madhuri can do more than removing stains & washing dishes 12.12.2011
http://savitahiremath.com/2011/12/11/sridevi-madhuri-can-do-more-than-removing-stains-washing-dishes/

Long back, when Malaika Arora returned to work after her first delivery with an item number, a news channel went berserk debating a teeny-weeny stretch mark on her belly. It kept on zooming in on the almost unnoticeable line over and again. A ‘dismayed’ newscaster criticised the falling standards of Bollywood—a world where item girls and marriage cannot inhabit one sphere, much less stretch marks.

All of us know that Bollywood masala can’t do without two main spices: youth and beauty. No wonder we see Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit—two storehouses of talent that our Bollywood directors failed to exploit to the fullest—appearing in soaps, fabric conditioners, dishwashing solutions and basmati rice ads.

Madhuri tried staging a comeback post her marriage—Aaja Nachle, but the movie evoked lukewarm response. News of Sridevi’s second innings keeps floating in the media circles every now and then, but we can very well understand and even empathise with Sridevi for taking such a long time. She did give it a try with a TV serial, but probably realised she needed a broader canvas to fit herself in.

When will Bollywood learn to extend the screen-life of such actresses (I am not concerned about models who are being called actresses) beyond their marriage and deliveries? When will the directors realise that their acting prowess does not wane with childbirth?

Although Hollywood is steeped in its own prejudices and stereotypes, it at least brings back a Meryl Streep to the Oscar stage, almost every year. It encourages scriptwriters to think beyond nubility and look into the beauty hidden beneath wrinkled smiles.

Back home, thanks to small-budget movies, we have Rekha and Shabana essaying some off-beat roles. But they are often labelled ‘art’ movies, taking away any chance of making it big in box office. There are exceptions, too, like Kajol. But exceptions don’t make history!

“It is an honour to win at the Asian Television Awards and testimony to the BBC Worldwide Production India and Sony Television teams who worked so tirelessly to bring the show to life. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 4 truly lived up to its promise of being bigger and bolder than the successful seasons before it. The Indian version of BBC Worldwide’s international bestseller Dancing with the Stars had been extensively remodeled to appeal to the country’s viewers. The dances were typically more exuberant than on its sister programmes around the world, owing to India’s unique Bollywood tradition,” said Myleeta Aga, General Manager & Creative Head of BBC Worldwide Productions India, who picked up the award on behalf of the show.

Full of glitz and glamour, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa attracted top celebrity judges such as Madhuri Dixit, Malaika Arora Khan and Remo D’Souza and received an overwhelming number of votes, mails and viewers from around India. The show has been a great success for BBC Worldwide Productions India and Sony Television, opening with TRPs of over 5.

Well, congratulations to the team of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa!!!

The name Life OK reflects the philosophy of the new brand. “Through our stories we wish to tell people that you are free to seek what you want but in your search for more you must not forget what you already have,” Thakur said. The “values” concept will be reinforced by Madhuri Dixit, who will play the sutradhar (storyteller) and interpret the values in the stories for the audience. “She is more like the brand philosopher and not the brand ambassador,” Thakur said....

Madhuri Dixit wants Sooraj Barjatya film
TNN | Dec 18, 2011, 12.00AM IST

Post her return from USA, Madhuri Dixit has been sending feelers to producers asking for meaty roles.

One producer that she's most keen on working with is Sooraj Barjatya, who gave her the biggest hit of her career in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. She wants to reunite with Sooraj and do another family drama. Madhuri's also excited with reports that the Barjatyas have locked in Salman for their next film and has been making discreet enquiries about the subject of the film. She plans to pay him a courtesy visit in the coming weeks. Maybe there will be a HAHK 2 in the making?

Madhuri Dixit is all set to appear as an anchor to launch a new entertainment channel called Life OK. Denying the speculation that she was the channel's official partner, she said she was only anchoring it to launch it to the masses. "I am not a business partner," Madhuri told Mail Today. The actress's job will be that of a storyteller or "brand philosopher". "The channel will have value-based shows. I'll be the 'sutradhar' and will interpret and discuss the shows with the viewers," Madhuri said.

This Sunday, Star India launched its new channel Life OK with Madhuri Dixit being the guide for the viewers about the stories on the channel and its link to the channels philosophy. It is the first project Madhuri has undertaken after returning to India from the US in October, with her two sons and husband Dr S. Nene.

“Life OK is a unique name which is in itself a statement of its philosophy, compelling content that flows from that philosophy and an unprecedented focus to cater to the viewer’s needs,” Star India CEO Uday Shankar elaborated on the philosophy of the channel.

“We found that viewers wanted better value for their time. Hence the stories on Life OK will be told seven days a week and will feature three stories every hour. People often said that they did not understand why we were doing a certain story and hence Madhuri Dixit will be the ‘sutradhar’ – a completely novel introduction on Life OK,” Shankar added.

Shankar promised that the channel would have the shortest ad breaks compared to any other channel in the country. The highlight of the channel would be “Sach Ka Saamna”, hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal.

Madhuri Dixit, the voice of Star’s channel Life OK 19.12.2011

[url=http://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip-buzz/madhuri-dixit-the-voice-of-stars-channel-life-ok/]

Star India’s new channel Life OK has Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit as the sutradhar. The stories will have compelling content that flows from the philosophy that Life is Ok, and ad breaks are kept shorter. “Life OK is a unique name which is in itself a statement of its philosophy, compelling content that flows from that philosophy and an unprecedented focus to cater to the viewer’s needs,” Star India CEO Uday Shankar said in a statement. “We found that viewers wanted better value for their time. Hence the stories on Life OK will be told seven days a week and will feature three stories every hour. People often said that they did not understand why we were doing a certain story and hence Madhuri Dixit will be the sutradhar – a completely novel introduction on Life OK,” Shankar added. The channel also promises to have shorter ad breaks. “Everybody that we spoke to said that they wanted shorter ad breaks, so Life OK will have the shortest ad breaks for any channel anywhere in this country,” Shankar said. Being a sutradhar (narrator), Madhuri will guide viewers about the stories on the channel and its link to the channels philosophy. The shows cover a wide spectrum of emotions – Meri Maa pays tribute to special bond between a mother and a child; Mahadev is about Lord Shiva’s journey; Saubhagyavati Bhava shows the sorrow of a young woman whose parents focused on external appearances while choosing her life partner; Smile Please shares that the glue that binds a family is the values and not the money; and Tum Dena Saath Mera will show how simple joys of life have become casualties of materialistic world. And there will be Sach Ka Saamna, hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal, which will put the spotlight on pervasive moral and economic corruption.

Jhalak 5 with Madhuri Dixit?
http://www.hindustantimes.com/Entertainment/Television/Jhalak-5-with-madhuri-Dixit/Article1-784750.aspx

After endorsing culinary channel FoodFood, launched by star chef Sanjeev Kapoor earlier this year, actor Madhuri Dixit has moved on to promote a newly launched Hindi general entertainment channel called Life Ok. The channel went on air on Sunday with a couple of fiction shows and one non-fiction
show, the controversial chat show Sach Ka Samna 2.

“The channel’s ideology is pretty much like mine. I live for the present, and never think too much about what I need to do for a secure future. This channel also propagates the same thought. It appealed to me. And I came on board,” says Madhuri, adding, “My deal with FoodFood was meant be for a small duration. And it’s over. I did my bit. I feel bad I couldn’t been there for the finale of my show FoodFood Mahachallenge, but that happened because they miscalculated the date requirements. I was planning to shift base to India by then. So, I couldn’t have squeezed the finale in.”

MadhuriAs a brand ambassador, the actor had a show to judge on the food channel. When asked if she would be doing another show on Life Ok, she smiles, “Not right now. But never say never! I could produce a soap or a non-fiction show. I could also be part of a show that someone else produces for them. Right now, I’m the channel’s sutradhar (narrator).”

So, is she being the modern Dadamoni? “No, no,” laughs Madhuri. “Ashok Kumarji is the most iconic sutradhar on TV. I’m nowhere close. Even my role on this channel is different. I appear once a day on any show and leave the audience with questions that they should ask themselves but they never do. And mind you, answers to some of these questions can change one’s life.”

Before shifting base to Mumbai, Madhuri had said she is in talks for Jhalak Dikkhlaa Jaa 5 on Sony Entertainment, Life Ok’s rival. Is that offer still open?

“Yes, our talks are still on. I’d love to do that show and I’m sure I’ll do it. It worked for the channel and it satisfied me because I’m passionate about dance,” says Madhuri, adding, “We’re only stuck on the dates. Once that’s cleared, I’ll ensure my duties here and my job there don’t interfere with each other. I won’t sideline any channel’s interests for sure.”

No good offers for Madhuri Dixit 21.12.2011
http://b-town.tv/2011/12/no-good-offers-for-madhuri-dixit/

New Year’s eve performances at big parties are huge opportunities for actresses to make mega bucks.

Especially for those who aren’t great dancers. Every year, the likes of Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu are offered obscene amounts of money – amounting to a few lakhs a minute – to perform at five star hotel bashes.

It seems Madhuri Dixit, who recently shifted base back to Mumbai, wanted to explore this opportunity too. It is learnt that her manager met up with a few organisers and even sent out feelers to a leading event management company about the same. However, Mads’ enthusiasm to dance on a medley of her hits wasn’t received well, as these performances are not about old Bollywood numbers or the Saroj Khan school of dance, but more about sex appeal. A source reveals, “It was an awkward situation for the organisers. They didn’t want to upset her so they simply said that the money wasn’t working out.”

An insider admits, “Madhuri is keen to perform at an exclusive event for New Year’s eve. She had the whole performance planned out and was willing to negotiate on the moolah, but the response she received wasn’t enthusiastic. The offers she did get though weren’t exciting enough, so she rejected them.”

This year, none of the A-list actresses are performing, with Mallika Sherawat being the only relatively famous one to cut a deal of Rs 4 lakh per minute for a 30-minute concert (upwards of Rs 1 crore in total).

When contacted, Madhuri’s manager Rikku Rakesh Nath denies her interest in such a show. He says, “It’s not true. She is going on vacation with her family. She did get some offers to perform for Rs 2.5-3 crore, but she turned them down.”

The Real Dirty Picture 21.12.2011

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/opinion/edit-page/The-real-dirty-picture/articleshow/11182885.cms

She's vanished - and Vidya Balan's bosom-heaving in The Dirty Picture underlines that. Celebrating the era of the female sex symbol with silky elan, the film highlights this figure's absence from cinema today. Once upon a time, heroines flashing decolletage, twirling in saris amidst thundery rain, casting looks at the hero - and viewers - that were part-humorous twinkle and part-bedroom invite were de rigueur in Hindi cinema. In an era of censorship, the sex symbol heroine was vital. The onus of blending fantasy and normalcy lay entirely upon her. Heroes were to be honourable, forth-right and macho, spouting poetry and flashing fists with equal vigour. But sexy? That was the job of the heroine.

Yet today, the sex symbol heroines of yore have gone - and with them, so has much of the comedy their role involved.

The last stars of this ilk were Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. In the 1980s, they followed the nimble footsteps of earlier gene-rations. Asha Parekh in the 1950s who, sunglasses perched on coiffure, matched Shammi Kapoor tease for tease; Sharmila Tagore in the 1960s who set screens on fire wearing a perky bikini in An Evening in Paris; Parveen Babi and Zeenat Aman in the 1970s, wielding enough charisma to match Amitabh Bachchan. Perhaps the greatest was Hema Malini. With her dancer's grace and her funny Hindi, her classical beauty and comedienne's eyes, Hema held Sholay's reins more powerfully than we thought, jumping from simple Sita to lively Gita with a swish of roller-skates.

In the 1980s, with violence ruling the screens, Sridevi struggled between emulating Hema or Rekha - the latter the ultimate diva, all sensuousness and perfumed mystery. She chose Hema, the everyday heroine who wore tangerine trousers and plastic pearls, whose Urdu shayari never sounded quite right but always sounded hilarious. Sridevi never looked back. Like Hema, she carried off double-role movies - the last heroine to do so. She played tough journalists, spoilt heiresses, scheming thieves, an Afghan princess, even Charlie Chaplin - all the while, soaked to the skin by obliging showers.

Her contemporary, Madhuri Dixit, also played diverse roles - dancer, student, sister of the bride, wearing fluid ghaghras and flouncy mini-skirts, cloying saris and notorious cholis. But most importantly, she flaunted the sex symbol's attitude.

Like Sridevi, Madhuri's cha-racters took on teasing boys, torturing mothers-in-law, tormented lovers; all handled with grace, guts and humour. For the sex symbol to succeed and be known beyond her cleavage, it's essential she have the ability to laugh in the face of fate, raise her eyebrows naughtily at life, wriggle her toes sensuously in fortune and adversity. In short, she must be in love with life. And this must show - but the display ended with Sridevi and Madhuri.

Instead, in the 1990s as India liberalised, its heroines became wimps, shrinking in every way. In 1995, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge's verbally challenged heroine, either taken by her lover or given by her father, turned the tide against stronger, sassier women. Most heroines became painfully uncertain, wafting about in whimsical misery, waiting to be rescued by know-it-all Lotharios.

Their diminution went deeper. Hit by India's newfound fascination for gyms, heroines went from 'healthy' girls to thinner, flatter, unidimensional figures. The fashion industry fuelled further change. As beauty queens won international titles and models swamped Bollywood, heroines swung from sexy to sophisticated, setting their lips in perfect - and plastic - smiles. The odd role involving sexuality made sexiness seem more chore than celebration.

Initially, audiences approved. As women crowded the workforce and Indian life made space for female roles other than the romantic or maternal, the older, heavier, heaving sex symbols began looking overdone. Thinner, smarter heroines, zipped into size-zero shorts, looked less sexy but more hip. Yet, there was a flip side. Largely bereft of humour and choice, such women lacked the sex symbol's power. With little to distinguish them from the next heroine, younger stars did little for viewers - whose attention shifted elsewhere.

In fact, the female sex symbol's vanishing meant the arrival of the sexy male star, exemplified by the three Khans. Through the 1990s, each created a distinct cinematic kingdom for himself. Thereafter, the trio's sex appeal took over. With his overt machismo, Salman Khan was the people's choice. Aamir Khan's appeal blended with the idea of his intelligence. Shah Rukh Khan exemplified the quirky appeal of the unpredictable - turning up to claim another's bride or playing bad boy with a snarling pout, he underlined how the Khans' sexual presence made the heroine's redundant.

Suddenly, cinema revolved around male cleavage, metro-sexuality, see-through shirts, six-pack abs, boyish pouts - these define today's sex symbol. Vidya Balan may trill 'Ooo-la-la' covered in glittering soapsuds and Katrina Kaif can tap into the grungy appeal of older desi girls across item numbers. But the truth is, our sex symbols are now wholly male. Female viewers aren't complaining. And judging by the roars of approval when Salman Khan takes his shirt off, neither are the men. Welcome to a whole new Dirty Picture then - where the hero is the sexiest thing on screen.

Vegas Indian Student Association Celebrates ‘India Night’ 21.12.2011

http://www.indiawest.com/news/2062-vegas-indian-student-association-celebrates-india-night.html

The Indian Student Association at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, also known as ISAMaitri, celebrated “Goonj, India Night 2011,” an evening filled with Indian music, dance and food Nov. 19 that attracted more than 350 attendees.

Students from different countries, including Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Spain, also attended “Goonj,” which featured a display of talent that showcased a fusion of the old and new faces of Indian culture through dance, song and drama.

The program was presided over by Prof. Henry Selvaraj, a long time patron of ISAMaitri.

The program began with a bhajan sung by kids followed by a Bharatanatyam performance by UNLV students. Local classical singer Swetha Verma won the hearts of the audience when she sang “Bole Re Papiharaa.”

The highlight of the program was an item in which small children representing different states of India danced to Tamil, Hindi, and Punjabi music. A special tribute to Madhuri Dixit was paid by Suhana and her team.

Though the association welcomes any UNLV student, its services and activities focus on making Indian students’ transition to life in the United States comfortable and provides a platform for engaging students in various activities.

“I am overwhelmed by the support and love showered on ISAMaitri UNLV by the Las Vegas Indian community. The audience was amazing; it was as if we were in a movie theater in India and enjoying a movie,” president Ata Ur Rahman said.

The ISA collects no membership fees and its doors are open to anyone who wants to celebrate the essence of India in Las Vegas.

Everything about the great painter was big — be it his canvases, or serial productions or obsessions with glamorous divas like Madhuri Dixit. His experiments with the nude form led right wing groups to attack his exhibitions and forced him to leave India for good in 2006. His refusal to accept boundaries to his freedom of expression will remain his enduring legacy.

Madhuri Dixit in a dilemma? 21.12.2011
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tv/Madhuri-Dixit-in-a-dilemma/articleshow/11194900.cms

ctress Madhuri Dixit seems to be in a dilemma. The dhak-dhak girl, who was once a judge on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa - the dance reality show, and the brand ambassador of Sanjeev Kapoor's Food channel Food Food, has now become a sutradhar (or narrator) for 'Life Ok'.

So the big question is: Will Madhuri judge Jhalak Dikhla Ja Season 5? When we caught up with the actress, she said, "Why not? We can always work it out. I loved being a judge on Jhalak. I got tremendous feedback, the channel was happy, and I was too. I'm passionate about dance."

But what about her contract with 'Life Ok' then? "We are all professionals, and I'l obviously ensure that the interests of two channels don't clash," she said.

Apparently, Madhuri has been approached to judge Jhalak, and only the dates remain to be worked out. However, with Life Ok being competition, we don't know how happy they would be with their sutradhar divding her time. OK or not OK, now that's the question!

Lady Di is back with Life Ok 23.12.2011

Star One has now been rechristened Life OK and has Madhuri Dixit is promoting its new avatar. Looks like Lady Di’s return to India has not resulted in meaty Bollywood offers so the actress appears to be killing time by doing B-grade ads and appearing as sutradhaar on this new, oops we mean old, channel. Life Ok somehow reminds one of OK sabun. Remember, the middle-class soap product had this rather catchy line — jo okay se nahaye, kamal sa khil jaye. Not the best of associations but Life Ok does have its moments. Lady Di looks gorgeous, has shed all the flab and takes you through the journey of the characters in the various soaps.

Dil Se Di Duva, Saubhagyavati Bhava is this tale of an obsessive psycho husband who locks his wife up at home and calls her up every 15 minutes to check on her. This arranged marriage turns into an instant nightmare as the protagonist assumes she is marrying a gentle shy guy. Looks promising despite the creepy moments on the soap.

Rajeev Khandelwal returns with his Sach Ka Saamna but the opening espisode was somewhat thanda. Wish the channel had opted for a dhamaakedar participant like a Rakhi Sawant to make it livelier. One doesn’t really know what the channel hopes to achieve but like we said, the content is basically old wine in a new bottle — nothing exciting so far.

Meanwhile the Zee Rishte Awards was a lackluster affair, the only star (if you can still call her that) present was Urmila Matondkar who sat demurely next to Subhash Chandra Goel and laughed coyly at some of the acts. Urmi still looks hot and it’s a pity that this Marathi mugli seems to have virtually disappeared from Bollywood. As far as the show is concerned, the only recognisable stars were Ankita Lokhande and Hiten Tejwani from Pavitra Rishta. This is the only soap that continues to garner reasonably good TRPs. The rest of the actors are largely new and forgettable faces who have not made an impact despite the awards that they won that night.

To make matters worse, rival channel Colours screened their curtain raiser to the Golden Petal awards, which is to be aired on December 25. One must admit that this event was far more exciting and rather crisply edited giving you an insight into the fun moments and the stars who will make their presence felt. There was Sallu miyan rehearsing for his act at 2 am and the choreographers were super excited as the star appeared to be in a good mood. Sallu seems to have also earned a few brownies from the audiences after he played Big Brother to the sleazy Bigg Boss contestants. He walked into the house, to give them a piece of his mind, asking them to get their act together. It was a good move by the channel but a tad too late. The show has almost come to an end and audience interest has waned drastically.

Madhuri Dixit talks about her family, movies and beauty secrets...24.12.2011

You've been known as the epitome of Indian beauty. How do you maintain yourself?
(Laughs)...It is very important to eat healthy, exercise and say no to bad habits. Apart from this, it is crucial to look after your skin as well.

How does Olay Regenerist help in protecting the skin?
Though there are many ways to protect your skin naturally, pollutants affect your skin and makes it look dull and dry and as time goes by the signs of ageing starts showing and that is where Olay Regenerist steps in.

Do you fear ageing?
Ageing is a natural process and happens to everyone at one point of time. Thus, there is nothing to be afraid of it.

Dance and Madhuri Dixit are synonymous. Does dance play a vital part in your life to boost your beauty?
Dance is a vital part of my life. There's a different kind of happiness I get from dancing. It's more spiritual for me and so whenever I dance it gives me a good work-out apart from feeling good about myself. I enjoy dance and that gives an instant glow on my face.

How's the shift back to India been so far?
We are busy settling down, getting the kids to school. I am spending more time with my family, my parents are with me.

What's a normal weekend for you?
I try and spend more time with my family, my kids and my husband.

Have your kids watched any of your movies?
Yes! My kids have watched Aaja Nachle, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and Dil toh pagal hai. They have a lot of fun and they are like, "Mom, is that you? Are you really that famous?" and "Why do they call you Madhuri Dixit? Arn't you Nene?"!! They're curious to know who their mom is...

So, which is the last movie that you've watched?
I haven't watched quite a lot of movies in a while. The last movie must have been Band Baaja Baraat.

What would you say is the toughest aspect of motherhood? Has it changed you as a person?
You want your kids to grow up in a right way and how do you instil those values in your children is the toughest one. As a mother I have faced situations that I had never gone through before...You learn to be calm, matured, and handle situations as they come. Basically you remain the same person. It's just that you look at situations in a different way than I would ten years back!

Salman and Madhuri to miss Dus Ka Dum and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa!

Strangely, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit are in no mood to do the next season of their respective shows Dus Ka Dum and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Both Bollywood biggies are comfortable at what they are upto at the moment is what sources reveal.

The sources further add that while Salman is pretty chilled with the kind of package he is getting from Bigg Boss, he isn’t interested in Dus Ka Dum at the moment. On the other hand, the dancing diva too has become choosy and is engrossed in picking up the right project amongst many being offered to her.

Also, the delay to zero-in on the contestants for the next season of the reality dance is testing Madhuri’s patience thus, a non-inclination towards the show.

Well, whatever may be the reason, all we can say is gear up fast guys because your fans can’t wait to watch you on the small screen.

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) Will Madhuri Dixit feature in 'Ishqiya' sequel or will she be seen as a judge on 'Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa' yet again? Even as several rumours dog the actress's return to the arc lights, she hints that her fans will have to wait a little longer for her to make any official announcement.

The 44-year-old was in town Tuesday to talk about her association with dental care brand Oral-B as the Chief Smile Officer of its Smile India Campaign.

When she was asked when she will be ready to spread smiles in tinsel town, Madhuri told IANS: 'Well soon, not yet!'

She is quite secretive about her work plans so far, but admitted she is adjusting well with her husband Sriram Nene, and two kids - Arin and Raayan.

'Mumbai is treating me well. I am smiling, so yes, it's great,' she said.

Madhuri, who delivered memorable performances in 'Tezaab', 'Ram Lakhan', 'Sajan', 'Beta', 'Dil', 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun!', 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai' and 'Devdas', had shifted abroad after tying the knot in 2002 with US-based doctor Nene.

But now she has relocated to Mumbai.

She accepted the role of a narrator to launch a new general entertainment channel Life OK!, and so there have been doubts whether Sony Entertainment Channel will let her sit on the judge's seat for the next season of dance reality show 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' or not.

For now, the lady with a million-dollar smile, is on a mission to spread healthy smiles across the nation through the Smile India Campaign.

'I always spread smiles for the country wherever I go. But I want other people to do that more often. That's why I have associated with this smile movement.

'I have always been appreciated for my smile ever since I joined films and people have appreciated me for that. My fan base says that the best thing about you is your smile, and I felt this was a nice way to give back,' said Madhuri.

The actress says the pre-requisite for a good smile is good teeth, and people should 'brush twice a day, for two minutes each and visit the dentist every six months'.

No films yet for Madhuri Dixit
Mumbai, January 12, 2012

Madhuri Dixit, whose wax statue will be the next from Bollywood to be put up at Madame Tussauds in London, has just returned from her holiday in Maldives. Before she went, there were rumours that she

had been offered Dedh Ishqiya, the sequel to 2010’s sleeper hit Ishqiya with Naseeeruddin
Shah and
Arshad Warsi.

Reportedly, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar also had a closed-door meeting with her to discuss the sequel to his 2008 National Award-winning movie Fashion that toplined Priyanka Chopra. There were also reports that the 1990s superstar would be emulating the late PM Indira Gandhi in a supposed biopic.

“I have offers, but I haven’t accepted any. I decided to endorse a new channel because it suits me. I have to shoot for a smaller duration, the philosophy of the channel is similar to my life’s, and it leaves me with ample time for my sons (Arin and Ryan),” says Madhuri with her trademark smile. “My kids are new to the city. They’re just beginning to adjust with their new school’s curriculum. Once they’re accustomed to life here, I’ll be in a position to consider film offers.”

Prod her on the two sequels, which have been in the news recently, and she admits she met Madhur, but it wasn’t a closed-door meeting. “I know Madhur socially. He’s appreciated my work and expressed a desire to work with me. But no Fashion sequel was offered,” the actor says, adding, “I don’t want to speak about Dedh Ishqiya. It’s pointless to talk about a project I haven’t been offered. Right now, my attention is on my kids, and husband (Dr Sriram Nene). He isn’t happy with the job offers coming his way. Once he’s sorted in his professional space, I’ll be back to work. It’s a promise!”

ВОСПОМИНАНИЯ САРОДЖ КХАН:

SLB caught my goof ups

I have choreographed over 2000 dances till date. However, the Dola Re number in Devdas was the toughest. Choreographing two leading heroines for the same dance was a challenge. Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai are both brilliant dancers and I couldn't let either of them feel that they did not have good steps. I was scared that the one of them may feel left out, but luckily nothing untoward happened. Both of them loved the steps and put their heart and soul into the dance.

The dance was totally based on classical forms. I had to make sure that the 'todas' I gave each of them were balanced. I had to keep in mind that both needed to look bright on screen. Madhuri and I had worked before. She had the habit of rehearsing before the shoot. Her faults used to get corrected during the practice sessions. On the other hand, Aishwarya used to rehearse before the shoot itself.

The form of dance that I explored with Dola Re, is called Nautwary. It included steps of Kathak and Bharatnatyam. It was a mix of Indian classical dance forms. While many dancers have danced to the Dola Re song afterwards, nobody could achieve what Madhuri and Aishwarya did. They worked really hard. There were several retakes. At a particular point, they had to fall. It had to be perfectly in sync with the beats. It was physically demanding for both actresses.

I must add that Sanjay Leela Bhansali(SLB) was extremely involved with the dance number. He is trained in Kathak and choreographing for his film was not easy. If I made a mistake, he would have realised. He used to give inputs on the dance as well. In fact, he was so excited about the sequence that at times he would just get up and hug me. He would then whistle and get emotional. After the shoot was over, he even sent flowers and chocolates to my home the next day.

I got 17 awards for the song. This included the national award. It's called the best dance in modern Hindi cinema. Earlier it was Hothon Pe Aisi Baat from Jewel Thief on which, Vyjyanthimala had danced. That was choreographed by my Guru Mr B Sohanlal.
